Where do I start?

Many clients come to me with good intentions of changing their diets and making life altering changes to lead them towards a healthier lifestyle, but I find that after I explain what they need to do and what kind of foods they should be eating they often look lost.
"Where do I start?"
I can assure you that making life altering changes doesn't happen overnight, but that's the point! This isn't supposed to be like every. other. diet. you have tried, because they have all failed, hence why clients come to me...
Sorry to burst your bubble! Especially, if you're someone who likes to see results overnight. Yes, there likely are a lot of changes that need to be made, but as one of my favorite professors told me in college when we all got overwhelmed thinking about this HUGE project we were just assigned, she said, "The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time."
If you're making life long behavior changes, you have to take it one bite at a time. You may have been drinking a soda every morning for as long as you can remember. To think that you will just stop doing that tomorrow and not be phased is well, dumb! It's going to be hard and it's going to take some time and adjusting! Mentally and physically!

Here are a few steps I recommend to my clients to help them make a diet change:
Learn how to read labels! Not just the nutrition facts label but also the ingredients, they matter too!
Pay attention to the foods you eat on a regular basis-should they stay in your routine or should we work on cutting them back.
How do you feel? Does that muffin leave you hungry an hour later? Did that salad hold you over until dinner? Were you really hungry or just thirsty? By listening to your body you can learn a lot!
