Many start the year with BIG goals but quickly notice that it's not working and give up within the first few weeks. Yep, you may be there...or, maybe you just need to set better goals in order to achieve them!
THE DEFINITION OF A GOAL:
"Any desired outcome that wouldn’t happen without YOU doing something"
The definition itself makes me feel ambitious and we love to set goals, right? But are we setting goals that are actually going to work for us? Here are a few tips on goal setting to ensure your goals are SOLID and will work for YOU!
First of all, YOUR goal doesn't have to be the same as everyone else's. YOUR goal needs to be something that matters A LOT to you, if it doesn’t, get a new goal! If you don't give a sh*t about your goal and are doing it to please others then what's going to drive you to reach it? And, not everyone cares about the number on the scale (AND THAT'S OK!). Why does this goal matter to you? If your goal isn't personal, you’re not going to work towards it! You need to establish a goal that pushes you, and when you Imagine what It will feel like when you achieve your goal, you pee your pants a little with excitement.
Your goal has to be something that you can measure (ounces of water, miles walked, weight lifted, number on scale, grams of protein). By having a measurable goal, you will know exactly when you have achieved that goal! Without something measurable, you will feel like your goal is never ending and quickly burn out.
You can’t try to do everything at once! Don’t set yourself up for failure! You can’t expect yourself to succeed if you try to do everything perfectly if you’re not doing any of that currently. The best way to create healthy habits that LAST is to do 1 thing until it’s a habit and then add onto that habit. Small changes> BIG results!
Now you need to have a plan; how are you going to MAKE IT HAPPEN! This is the most important part! Without a plan you are setting yourself up to fail. Just because the goal is set, doesn’t mean it will happen by itself. You must be ready to put in the effort and work for what YOU want!
WRITE YOUR GOAL DOWN! In your calendar, journal, on the bathroom mirror, on your phone’s home screen, as a reminder on your phone, on a post-it note on the refrigerator-it doesn’t matter where, just so you can see it daily and be reminded! The more you can mentally be reminded the better your mind and body can sync and work towards achieving that goal!
Remember, if YOU are brave enough to start, then you have the courage to achieve it!
